Hey FGs,
I'm finally getting ready to start looking for an apartment! I should be coming right in the beginning of 07, so I still have plenty of time to work things out. What are some good search engines, or other ways for finding an apartment?
I've been looking at Sakura House, just because last time I came I stayed with them and it worked out well. I'm looking for a 2 bedroom in the Tokyo area at least somewhat close to a stop on the Yamanote line if possible. I will be staying at least a year i think also. Thanks in advance.

Please be forewarned: Online sites offer rentals in engrish for 50-300% more than the walk-in rate at a local real estate agent. In Japanese, the online sites ALWAYS offer mega-crap rentals with some "catch" (next to a 24/7 sheetmetal factory, site of mass suicide, mizushobai building, etc). If you are not on "The Package," it always pays to come here and look for a rental face-to-face.

I also have the contact details for a great English speaking agent - she found me my apartment. PM me if you want her phone number. She can send you faxes of possible apartments or get you some tempory accomodation before you arrive. She will not rip you off and can show you properties whatever your budget.

Going with Taro's advice, you can always get a short term furnished apartment (from oakwood or b-site...I looked at a few of the B-site properties in 2004 and they're fairly nice although some are pretty small even by Tokyo standards) to start off with for 4 to 8 weeks to give yourself time to get your bearings. You'll pay more for the short term nature and will have to uproot again but Tokyo is definately not one of those places that you can figure out (and figure your needs) by looking at map.
