Hi,
I was wondering if there was anyone out there who knew about labor laws in Japan and how I could go about pursuing this.
Until a month ago, I worked for a big Eikaiwa chain. I had been there a few years, and had been doing pretty well. I changed jobs a month ago, fully expecting to start my new job at the beginning of April. I was told by my new employer that though I was hired and have a signed contract, I could not be put on payroll till I actually started work, and that my start date would be delayed by a week. I said, okay, no problem.

Well a week has turned into two weeks. Then three weeks. then a month. Now it's past Golden Week and I still am unemployed, yet I have a job. I have been doing odd part-time jobs here and there to make ends meet, but things are starting to get desperate.

Can I take my new company to court for breach of contract? No where on the contract does it say that I agreed NOT to be paid until I start work. Do they have to honor the contract? It is SIGNED by both me and the company, so it IS a legal document

I appreciate the help

Good luck.

eikaiwa is not teaching english . . .it is english conversation factory

Unfortunately, just as eikaiwa is not really teaching English, The students that attend aren't really students as well.

So I guess in a warped sense, I guess the two fit.
