Why Shane Lipscombe and his sweat shop
"Shame" English School are BIG scumbags in Japan
Now I know this guy has a screw loose (didn't he get done by Metropolis in court?), but is there any substance to his claims? I know an English teacher seriously thinking about coming to Japan to work with Shane.

Scumbags? Who really knows anything about state of a Japanese EngRish business. However, looking at this piss-poor keitai-cam shot of their subway ad, would you wanna go to such a school :? ?http://mediaservice.photoisland.com/auction/Jan/20031293888853157935761.jpg

That ad's targetting potential students (and I have no idea how successful they are at convincing the Japanese mindset). The overseas recruiters seem to do a reasonable job of convincing teachers with little inside knowledge or contacts in Japan, I'm sure they must use different material.

Their website is somewhat better than their sad subway poster...

Check out the TV CM spot--it actually looks fun...

What salary are they offering to overseas FG wannabes?

...it's indentured servitude. All these Engrish-factolies are pretty much the same. If you don't mind being treated like a Kleenex in the intellectual 'Battan Death Stampede,' go for it. The screw you just as well for saying "yes," as saying "no," and like nothing better than unpaid labor.

Typo: 'they,' not 'the.'

I remember there was a thread about that Antonio Ferreira guy before - the webmasters closed it down as it descended into a farce dominated by Antonio and his mates filling it with their rancid comments. :(
I think all you need to do is read: http://www.crisscross.com/scumbagsinjapan/
The website has been closed down by 3 hosting companies already, he has lost at least 3 court cases and he is in hiding.

they seem to have picked up a bad rep, I don't know whether its all down to that site. I do know 2 people that have worked there (one for 4 years) and they said it wasn't bad, though hard work.

Did 2 years with them. As good/bad as any other eikaiwa. Will overcharge you for shoddy accommodation, not make any pension payments, and force an illegal two month notice period by threatening to withhold your "discretionary" bonus.
The British English thing is a lie, too, at least for kids' lessons - Shane's own in-house texts are US English.
Still, I don't think they're any worse than any other eikaiwa - it's fine for a year or two.
