Nanpa in Japanese or English?

Big dilemma:

Is it better (i.e., does it bring more success) to pick up chicks in English or Japanese? If you choose English, she won't understand what you're saying, but will think it's hot. If it's Japanese, you might impress her with your bilingualism and sophistication, but she might not want a gaijin who's who's not foreign enough to be cool. So which is it?

Actually a "friend" reminded of an old thread yesterday... it was funny to re-read it given the changes in circumstances but I was pleased to note that there was some consistency in my rantings...

Often when speaking English, English actually horror-of-horrors end up telling the truth. I've heard some amazingly frank admissions of deeply troubling feelings from Japanese so engrossing in communicating in English, they forget to lie....

I have to disagree. I think it is target specific. From a purely statistical standpoint, if you limit yourself to only the girls who speak some english (or rather enough for the time it takes to close the deal) you rule out a tremendous amount of talent.

Reading your Japanese is much easier compared to reading my Japanese engineer comments. It's not like your vocab is any different from the average email I get here at work...it's Japanese men hate to say anything concrete.

Likewise:
Have you ever noticed it wildly easier to understand gaijin movies dubbed into Japanese than to understand Japanese movies?

yeah... Ive noticed that too. The same goes for subtitles. Foriegn movies that have Japanese subtitles are much easier to read than Japanese movies with Japanese subtitles. I think it is because there are fewer "expressions" used and less things left implied.

Even when speaking/writing in Japanese I tend to approach it as a Westerner uses English: to express a point directly. You are right that the Japanese hate to say anything concrete. I have a hard time replicating their ability to speak in circles around a topic.

It's so true that it's easier to understand gaijin movies dubbed into Japanese (or the Japanese subtitles to foreign movies) than it is to understand Japanese movies. I guess the directness of English does shine through into the translated Japanese. Interesting... :idea:

nonono!! dude! not my intention at all... actually, what I was trying to say felt more natural in japanese and I just stuck with it.

All I said was basically "Ak likes the more plain-natural type but I like the dolled up Shibuya girls (meaning that might have something to do with it the difference of opinion) but I still think that if you go out in places that arent gaijin-centric, youre better off with japanese"
