I am applying to the IES 2 semester Nanzan University program and I was wondering if anyone on this board could tell me what to expect. I've taken 4 semesters of Japanese language in the US so far, so I can speak Japanese at the level of a 5 year old with down syndrome at this point. How is Nanzan?

Hey Grom, please login and stay a while.
Nanzan's a great school- 130 foreigners and about 5000 Japanese. The spring semester can be tough because all the Japanese students disappear from February -April, but when april hits, you can join all the clubs and meet plenty of freshmen. One semester's not enough, go for the year.
Your level of Japanese is pretty much what I had at that time, and is a good starting point. Nanzan doesn't have enough language levels, so you may be frustrated by a class that's too easy or too hard.
For more info, post to www.japannewbie.com, which is run by another Nanzan alum.
