Hey, sukebekuro, I saw you mention on Gaijin in Japan that Justin (of links.net) is in Japan on a journalist visa.

You may have no clue, but...do you have any info on the details of his visa? Did he self-sponsor himself, did a company or magazine sponsor him, and what kind of hoops did he have to jump through?

Does anyone have any info or links about self-sponsored writer/journalist or otherwise freelance type visas?

well believe it or not but justin's actually a friend of a friend, though i haven't met him personally. however, i don't know the details of how he got his visa (just saw a pic of it on his site a while back), but considering he just does freelance and webloggery, gotta think he self-sponsored himself, though how or through what hoops i don't know

Hmm, ok.

It would be interesting to know more, if anyone has info on this type of thing (self-sponsorship). I have a friend from HK who did that in the US. After he graduated and his student visa expired, he set up his own legit company, then all the income he made went through the company. It worked for his visa, but there was a huge tax penalty in his case.
