Thanks for the suggestion. I won't rule it out for the future, but right now I'm not sure if we can host it on our current servers. I'll look into it, but it's not a top priority.

Let me know if anyone has hosting or software suggestions.

The problem with chat rooms is that you already need a large user base to make them useful at all.

Everyone hates it when you stop by a chat room and you're the only active person in there at the time.

If I were you, I'd wait until your site gets ridiculous amounts of traffic to introduce a chat room :)

As far as the technical stuff, I think I saw some php chatrooms available on http://www.hotscripts.com

Thanks for the link. As you can see, I totally agree with you, which is why there isn't a chat room yet. Not to mention, time differences for different users.

Personally, I like the forum format better. You can compose your posts at your leisure, but if you want to, you can actually chat back and forth on the board in near-realtime.

Also, in case you didn't notice, registered users can send private messages (http://www.fuckedgaijin.com/forum/privmsg.php?folder=inbox) to each other.

Finally, a forum like this gives you a searchable database for people who have questions about something, which you don't have in a chatroom, where everyone ends up having the same conversation over and over again.

Our server was moved to a new data center yesterday, so the site was inaccessable during the move and while the new IP was/is propogating to your local ISP's DNS. Sorry for not posting a warning in advance, but hopefully things should be back to normal soon...

Things may be a bit iffy for a day or two, until the new IP propagates and your ISP flushes any cache of the site they may have had. I had to edit my hosts file to get on today, otherwise it still isn't resolving for me yet.

hidden locations for file downloads with trusted users would be nice. :D you could release video or audio that are targeted only to users over a certain amount of posts..
Like a fringe benefit of being a member and contributing to the overall improvement of the site :D
