ADV Films President and CEO John Ledford today publicly confirmed industry rumors that the firm has acquired the rights to produce, and has already begun development of, a live-action feature-film based on the Japanese animated television series “Neon Genesis Evangelion,” a multi-million dollar worldwide franchise and perhaps the most influential anime title in the history of the art form. Since its not Hollywood per se, I think it may turn out OK.

But they will HAVE to keep the edginess or else it will flop.

And they MUST use Japanese actors.

and since WETA is doing it, I have more faith in it.

If it makes them money then it's a success, but myself I just am not interested. What made the series so special was that magical thing called "luck" things just came together in the right way, the characters interacted well, the voiceovers mixed well, etc.

Sure you always shoot for that but with entertainment it's just never guaranteed, to get above that magical "do the best you can do" bar requires something you cannot plan for.

And by the end of the series I came to lothe Shinji. What a little pussy.

I wouldn't bet on it, considering the only "original" production ADV has ever had a hand in creating (as far as I know) was the atrocious Sin (http://www.scifi.com/sfw/issue187/anime.html).
