Industry sources say Virgin Cinemas Japan is preparing to launch a multiplex in Roppongi Hills, the biggest-ever development project in central Tokyo due for completion next May. Virgin's Yamamoto said he could not comment.

"There's just no way you can break even with the kind of rent you would be paying there," said one industry executive, asking not to be identified.
