Blade director planning live-action "Akira" (http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/art-main.html?2002-04/12/10.30.film). Can you spell S-U-C-K? :?

Also posted on the Main Site (http://www.fuckedgaijin.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=43&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0) and discussed here on Slashdot (http://slashdot.org/articles/02/04/13/1349240.shtml?tid=97).

the best comment from Slashdot:

He didn't actually say it would be a *movie*. I'm guessing the production is:

Akira On Ice! With Brian Boitano in the lead!

WB Giving Life to Anime 'Akira' (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=600&e=5&cid=848&u=/variety/20021010/film_variety/film_akira_dc)

I've been a fan of the anime for many years and understood which elements would have to be brought to a live-action translation of it.

again spotted on slashdot (http://slashdot.org/articles/02/10/10/2326202.shtml?tid=97)

No No the very best comment from /. was...

Japanese is a very well organized and accessible language. Much moreso than French, Spanish or English, for example.
This only serves to convince me more and more that /. is in fact an AI experiment being run by one geek on a IBM AS/400 out of a MIT basement in which google is searched at fixed intervals for hits relating to LOVE LINUX / HATE WINDOWS / OBSCURE PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES / BAFFLING SCIENCE and the like, which are then fed into a random comment generator and posted with names taken from an anagram lookup table of all the names of the current US SENATE.

For every gem of news /. generates some incredibly boring shit, now Fucked Gaijn on the other hand... :D :D :D

Norrington told the Reporter that his draft "preserves the tone, the visual and the epic scope of the original, whilst telling a somewhat more accessible story [to Western audiences]."

Telling a more accessible story for our simple Western minds are they?? I'm really interested to see how Hollywood mutilates an anime classic like Akira.....will they set it in New York using American street thugs instead of bosozoku‚©‚Č??
 ??Why Akira??

Well, they have remade the Seven Samurai into its many incarnations, Ringu into The Ring, and countless other movies that are or have been destined to flop, like Swept Away with Madonna, so why not an anime classic? somebody has money that they don't know what to do with, so the more the merrier.... :D

Of course, Kurosawa himself was heavily influenced by westerns (especially those of John Ford) when making Seven Samurai.

If they do make Akira, they should change the name as to not tarnish the original movie.

What arrogance....a mind is a mind....

But hollywood loves the standard packaged ending. arghummbullshithmmrguh.

Im writing my own screenplays. I hope someone will pick them up.

yeah, that is true.....but I think being influenced by and remaking is a bit different... :D
of course, much of the language (ie kanji) were "remade" from China into a Japanese format, too, so I guess it's all relative.. :D

The only thing that makes the situation bad is the chances are more likely that the remake version of this particular anime will be a sorry one.... :D
