Gaijin-style games battling to win broad acceptance (http://www.asahi.com/english/weekend/K2002052600128.html)

The electronic gaming industry may dwarf Hollywood, but you'd have a hard time finding proof of that in Tokyo.

The Japanese, it seems, have a fundamentally different idea of fun.

So that's why there's no Japanese PS2 version of GTA3.

.. but, lately, I think they've mostly forgotten what a fun game really is. I blame it on Densha de Go! and the date sims myself. When Metal Gear Solid sells much better over seas then it does in it's home country, then you know there's a problem...

GTA3 and a few other games excluded, my taste in games is much more on the Japanese side of things. I haven't messed with dating sims though, the closest I have come is Sakura Taisen. However, that seems like a gateway drug that might eventually lead me to harder stuff.

Anyway, I dislike games where I don't know who the hell I am playing as or it doesn't matter, that excludes almost all FPSs.

Oh, I can enjoy CS for short amounts of time if I am in a mindlessly violent mood.

My tastes run in the direction of Japanese games too. But, lately, it seems like the Japanese don't even know which games from their own country are the good ones...
