Anyone here have the Linux on PS/2 for the Japanese version of the PS/2? Any problems? :?:

You have an old IBM PS/2?? Wow, that brings back memories. I didn't know that was ever distributed in Japan. I have no idea what hardware it uses or whether linux supports it.

Just giving you shit, get your abbreviations right! PS2 isn't the same as PS/2.

It's called: "I can teach my kid brother how to use Linux without having to buy ANOTHER piece of equipment".

But I guess you rich guys wouldn't understand that.

if you want to truly help your kid brother - steer him as far away from Linux as possible.

if you're avoiding another machine due to space considerations, that's one thing, but if it's a matter of money, you can piece together a system that kicks the snot out of a Ps/2 linux kit for about the same cost. Load it with FreeBSD if you must have Unix otherwise teach development on Win32 where the money is.

An End-To-End Look at Linux for the Playstation 2 (http://www.execpc.com/~halkun/PSLin/)

slashdot thread (http://slashdot.org/articles/02/07/03/2320224.shtml?tid=127)

Interestingly enough, the distribution chosen by Sony for the PS2 kit (Kondara Linux, not Kondora as the article states) is about to shut down.

There hasn't been an English announcement yet, but their Japanese site says that the Kondara Project servers (the free development group behind the Kondara distribution, which was retailed by Digital Factory, a commercial enterprise) will be closed down on July 15.

The reason for this is that Digital Factory, which owns the Kondara trademark, has sold its distribution business to another company, and the project was forced to quit using the name Kondara.

Luckily for fans of the distribution, a new group, which looks suspiciously like the old Kondara group, has just kicked off the Momonga Project (http://www.momonga-linux.org/index.html.en) [momonga-linux.org] (momonga is Japanese for flying squirrel).
