View Full Version : So Who Needs A Roomie?

aquamarine
06-05-2004, 05:03 PM
Hey folks! I'm going to be flying out to Japan on July the sixth and have yet to find a suitable place to live. I've had numerous offers from high-class apartments but there's no chance in hell that I'm spending $2500 a month on rent. I know, relatively speaking that's not a LOT but good lord, there has got to be someone who needs a room-mate!

... now to find a job....

I always recommend the Taito Ryokan. (http://www.libertyhouse.gr.jp/) Very cheap and fairly convenient.

Try using the search function to locate threads on FG that discuss the same thing you're asking about. I think no one is responding because they don't want to rehash an old topic.

THIS IS FROM THE PREMIUM USERS THREAD:

AssKissinger wrote:
I think FG could use with a few more good regular posters. The problem with most newbies is you can tell right away they're not gonna have anything interesting to contribute. You gotta be a pretty good writer, have a sense of humor and know at least a little something about what you're talking about. I think all the regs really do have those qualities. I wished the board moved a little faster but only if it maintained a high-standard. When sillygirl came on the board nobody flamed her at all. Once she cracked open that 'dead gaijins' thread I knew she was gonna fit right in. I tend to flame newbies who right away start up with something corporate or how rich they are. That one guy, whoever, looking for a roomie guy, because he said there was no way he was gonna pay 2,500 usd a month on rent. I took it as an implication that he could but wasn't willing so I told him, 'For $2,499 and the suckage of turds from my anus you can sleep in the trunk of my car'. Then I went back and deleted it. Bongo seems like a pretty good poster but Caustic and I both got off to a bad start with him. The truth about that thing was at first a thought the whole lawsuit against Koizumi thing was a fabrication because he didn't have any links. Then it turned out that nothing he wrote was really BULLSHIT but I didn't want to back down. I thought, 'Oh shit this newbie is backing my yokozuna ass in a corner and everyone's siding with him'. Then by a stroke of luck, kamome exposed him for having two identities! So then I really had a reason to keep up the BULLSHIT comments after that . But later on the Bush vs Kerry thread I tried to give him an olive branch. Charles, too. I dissed him pretty hard cause he made a derogatory comment about crass Aussies (my favorite type of gaijin) on only his 5th post. Then on another thread I tried to offer him an olive branch as well.

Booger, I've always liked your posts and thought you were funny but this little trick was really lame as fuck. Fuck you, you shit eating asshole cunt! I deleted that post for a reason. I didn't want aquamarine to read that post and get all mad and try to find me and kick my ass in real life. He's like a kung fu guy or something, I think. Also, the premium members thread is supposed to be kept private for hardcore FG's not copied and pasted and put on the loser 'tatami' thread. That was a real fucktard abuse of your premium member status. Ultra, I think you should remove the premium members privilages from BB's account. He's obviously too immature to handle the responsibility.

OK... so Asskinsinger, would you prefer I leave the forum? I'm not a wonderful writer but I do have a good sense of humor most of the time. I'm only here to make friends as I know all of ONE person living in Japan.

I'm sorry if I have asked a silly question about finding a roomie, again, starting out, things are not easy. I'm not rich, I don't have a job lined up, I only hold a degree and a working-holiday visa. I'm a photographer (and where in the hell did you find out about my martial arts???) and a decent one at that.

I'm not sure what to say as I'm fairly taken back by this..

where in the hell did you find out about my martial arts??

Well, I'm not gonna say who but one of the FG regs pm'ed me and told me I'd better watch it. Let me be 100% clear here. I do not want to fight you. I'd just run away if you tried to attack me. I've only been in one fight since I came to Japan and I lost. Some South American guy head-butted me and it left me totally dizzy and then my neck hurt whiplash and he didn't even know kung-fu he just kapow got me right in the noggin' with a head-butt and ouch! I don't wanna go through that shit again that's for sure. So all I can say is I really hope you can accept my sincere apology and put the blame where it really belongs, on that dickhead in Hyogo, BIG BOOGER.

I would line something up, but sadly my degree isn't a "Real" degree since it was throug a college, NOT a University. That being said, I don't fully plan on working throughout the entire time I'm over there. The reason I have so much money is I'm not just planning on staying in Japan, here's the itinerary...

Canada > Japan > Thailand > Australia > Korea > Hong Kong > Singapore > United Arab Emirates > Iraq > Sweden > Russia > Germany > Japan > Canada

Iraq :?: :?: :?: Bring a neckguard. Maybe a chainmail turtleneck. Not too comfy in the desert but better than the alternatives.

What's the difference between college and university in Canadian?

aquamarine
06-24-2004, 09:19 AM
Whats the diff between College & University here in Canada? Not too much aside from the fact that one starts with a C and one starts with a U. Otherwise.... the university is comprised of many colleges while a college is just... umm on its own and according to the lovely Japanese imigration laws, a college teaches just about as much as a grade school so my degree doesn't count.

Depending on how I like it in Japan, I may end up coming back to Canada, going to university for 4 years to get a MBA anmd then head back again. But that being said, we'll just see.

Oh, and yes Iraq, for more combat photography experience. I've been attempting to reach a P.R. rep from the U.S. Army to see if I can tag along with an armoured division, but if that fails then I'll probably end up spending the majority of the time (2-3 weeks) in Northern Iraq away from where most of the fighting is going on.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I know the minimum education for a 'Humanities Specialist' (lol) visa that allows one to teach is a four year degree, a Bachelor's in American lingo. I don't think it matters if it's awarded from a college or a university. Plus, a lot of schools will hire you from abroad on a working visa.

GargoyleTS
06-24-2004, 12:15 PM
Its gotta be a recognized institution, and not all colleges are. Check with the college you went to to see if they are fully accredited. Also, he may be wanting to get a journo job instead of Eikaiwa, which has different visa requirements.

http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/index.html All the visa info you need (but not the accreditation info on colleges).

My mistake, I looked into it briefly and although considered a degree, it's not a "REAL" degree (ie: 4 years), mine was only two (Professional Cooking & Cullinary Arts)

Foiled again!

The Japanese government recognizes 3-year, 4-year and correspondence (Sheffield U, etc.) Bachelor's Degrees as long as they are the REAL THING, i.e., LEGITIMATE.

ASSOCIATE'S DEGREES from US Community Colleges, cooking school diplomas and the like are NOT bona-fide university degrees. Not that there's anything wrong with that!
