Plenty of milf in the nursery yard each morning on the way to work, absolutely agog.
Not sure if this photo would qualify her, though surely a sweet deal for a 15 year old.

Just on the basis of what is written here. I'd like to wish her every success - women could really make a big contribution to how Japan functions. It can only be good.

Hopefully the days of miserable old fart politics is on the way out.

Got to be a bit of a loser for using Delta anyway. Jesus, I'd rather swim than use some of these US airlines. Especially for a holiday where you can choose your airline. That said, it's rather unusual for a Japanese chap to actually strike someone. I've only ever seen them puff their chests out and ...

Legion I liked the article taking a contrarian view to the usual Japan is doomed line, people have been writing off Japan for years, but it still grinds on. I agree. It's refreshing for someone to take a different view on Japan. Unfortunately, I don't think the author, Eamonn Fingleton, is up to th...

The Myth of Japan's Failure

This is a very interesting article by Eamonn Fingleton, who argues that "Japan should be held up as a model, not an admonition". http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/08/opinion/sunday/the-true-story-of-japans-economic-success.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1 Friends of mine have been flagging it on Facebook but I h...

If you went further and included the distance to an actual platform then Oedo line stations would start to come into their own for inconvenience.

I too pretty much hate New Year's here (chiefly because I really hate having to sit in front of Japanese TV in a cold, and we're talking sub-zero, house in the inaka), and normally flee the country at the nearest opportunity to avoid it. This year I stayed, and stayed in Tokyo too. It wasn't that ba...

I saw some of them on TV the other day. From a distance they don't look bad but up close they're a bunch of munters.

AKB might be anodyne crap, but at least there's a couple that are worth a pop. Most of these k lasses I've seen are dogs.

Internationalisation ... heard it all before, since about 1985

Can't see where they they are going to find the space for more greenery in the city, or cycle paths. Unless they go all Chinese on us and simply enforce it with compulsion. Can't see that. If so, this is very bad news as Miso is a seriously civilised soup.

Indeed, one of the greater regrets in my life is not discovering Miso soup at an earlier age.

Well, tea is just a more civilised drink.

Coffee makes your breath smell foul, stains your teeth something rotten, hardly has any beneficial properties (other than caffeine - but that's a plus or minus depending upon your need), and is well, lacking in the refinement and sublime taste of tea.

Japan needed tea party types 15 years ago, before the budget deficit got ridiculously out of control.

Coming along now is just stupid, though of course, I always welcome lower taxes (but I have no real stake in the country).

The "announce of finalists" [sic] kind of suggests to me that not many "cool people" took part in the voting.

Tyler Brule, who has a special vision function to only see cool well dressed people, certainly didn't participate in this exercise.
