Re: Environmentalists pursue Japan's whalers

The issue isn't your criticism of Japan. It's your only-in-Japan attitude towards things that aren't unique to Japan. I think in some cases you guys are reading that into my statements, regardless of my intent. It's not what we're reading into it, it's what you're writing. You regularly unnecessari...

Death & Taxes

And yes, it does feel wrong because the basic justification for tax is the state provides the environment where you prosper enough to gain assets of value. Japan cannot say it provided support to my parents while they scrimped and saved to buy a house. And Japan wouldn't tax your parents or their e...

Re: Environmentalists pursue Japan's whalers

I had not mentioned gerrymandering until you – out of thin air, suggested that I equated it with vote buying. I'm the one who initially suggested it though not as directly. Since you said that voter suppression and vote value manipulation were buying votes it would be easy to categorize gerrymander...

Re: Environmentalists pursue Japan's whalers

How can a policy buy votes when there are no differences in policy between the parties? What you are saying is like saying that the LDP are buying votes because they have a policy to use Yen as the currency for Japan. When the Democrats and the JCP have the same policy, that is not buying votes. Th...
