Steve Buscemi To Appear In Nanking Film

Postby Mulboyne » Mon Oct 22, 2007 8:31 pm

[floatl]Image[/floatl]IHT: Steve Buscemi, Zhang Jingchu cast in movie about WWII Nanjing massacre
American Steve Buscemi and rising Chinese actress Zhang Jingchu will co-star in a movie about the true story of a German businessman who shielded locals from Japanese slaughter in World War II-era China, one of the film's investors said Monday. German actor Ulrich Tukur will play in a role comparable with that of German Oskar Schindler whose real-life efforts to save Jews in Nazi Europe was the subject of a Hollywood movie that won a clutch of Oscars. Tukur...will play John Rabe, a German businessman and Nazi follower in Nanjing at the time of the Japanese occupation, Chinese movie company Huayi Brothers said in a statement. Buscemi will play a doctor who helps Rabe protect Chinese refugees and Zhang will portray a student whose family is targeted by Japanese troops, the statement said...Japanese actor Teruyuki Kagawa will portray a member of the Japanese royal family and Akira Emoto a Japanese general...In other movies about the Nanjing massacre, "Con Air" director Simon West is shooting the $53 million "Purple Mountain," and Chinese filmmaker Lu Chuan is filming the US$10.5 million "Nanking! Nanking!" Hong Kong director Yim Ho is planning the US$35 million production "Nanking Xmas 1937"...more...

I think it will be interesting to see how this movie affects the Japan public. Assuming it is released in Japan...

I found some comparison war and genocides stats on Japan and China. Seems like they both have done a pretty good job in killing people although Mao definitely wins the dictator SOB award.:mad2:

War and Casulaties
1928-37: Chinese civil war (2 million)
1931: Japanese Manchurian War (1.1 million)
1934: Mao's Long March (170,000)
1937-45: Japanese invasion of China (500,000)
1946-49: Chinese civil war (1.2 million)
1958-61: Mao's "Great Leap Forward" (38 million)

Dictator Genocides (civilian deaths)
Mao Ze-Dong (China, 1958-61 and 1966-69, Tibet 1949-50) = 49-78,000,000
Hideki Tojo (Japan, 1941-44) = 5,000,000 (civilians in WWII)
and for relative reference...
Jozef Stalin (USSR, 1934-39)=13,000,000 (the purges)
Adolf Hitler (Germany, 1939-1945)=12,000,000 (concentration camps and civilians WWII)

It will be released in Japan, after some slight modifications. It will come off as a nice, quaint love story amid a time of massive civil unrest in China in which Japanese soldiers played only a minor advisory role.

"This will be our first effort to correct the errors of history through a film," Mizushima said in Tokyo

HAHA you mean whitewashing your schooltext books and bullshitting yourselves on 2ch isnt enough?

I suppose the

Rape of Manilla
Baatan Death March
Unit 731 (and many others)
Saturation bombing of countless civillan cities across China
Mass sexual enslavement of women from many countries
Mass murder of civillains in Singapore and Hong Kong
Bombing of Pearl Harbour and Darwin

Never Happened either!!

The Japanese denial Syndrome lives on.

My Opinion

Postby fucked » Sun Nov 11, 2007 10:56 pm

Would China do the Same Again? Probably Not.
Would Germany do the Same Again? Unlikely.
Would Japan do the Same Again? Oh no, Japanese are no longer xenophobic, insecure, and convinced that they are the "special" race.

On the BBC's web site

'Good Nazi of Nanjing' sparks debate
A film about a member of the Nazi party who saved thousands of Chinese during the massacre in Nanjing recently opened in Germany. The BBC's Zoe Murphy looks at the possible impact this unlikely hero's story may have on Sino-Japanese relations.

On Christmas Eve in 1937, German businessman John Rabe visited the mortuary in China's then capital, Nanjing.

John Rabe remains a hero in China but his story is little known elsewhere
He later described in his diary the charred body of a civilian man whose eyes had been gouged out, and a boy of perhaps seven, whose corpse was punctured with bayonet wounds.

"I wanted to see these atrocities with my own eyes, so that I can speak as an eyewitness later," he wrote. "A man cannot be silent about this kind of cruelty!"

Well, I think that pretty well sums it up. I mean I don't think you would find those feelings or traits in any Japanese during the four seasons found only in Japan.
