Japanese soccer fans taunted in China

When the final whistle blew, paper cups were thrown at a group of nine Japanese fans who were behind one of the goals and had been holding up a Hinomaru national flag and cheering on the Japanese side.

A group of more than 100 Chinese fans rushed from the stands to an exit, waving a Chinese flag and taunting Japanese fans by chanting disparaging terms such as "Japanese midgets!"

..and they wonder why?? Jeez - i was staying at the same hotel in Beijing (2004) as the Japanese players. When I found out who/why they were there - I immediately left and went to another hotel. No way was I going to hang out in the center of that mess! Chinese and Japanese mix about as well as oil and water. In countless business trips I've had to endure continual cross country deraogatory banter both on and off the negotiating table. Its like the Hatfields and the McCoys non-stop. Even in the celebratory KTV sessions, generally the drunker they get, the more they despise and hate each other. The 2008 Olympics are gonna be alot of fun!

Chinese citizen level is extraordinary low.
(Japanese one too is low though.)
Chinese citizen level is lower than Korea.

IHT: FIFA moves date of Japan's women's World Cup soccer match in China on safety concerns

The date of a Women's World Cup soccer match between Japan and Germany has been changed after host China warned of possible crowd trouble. FIFA said it has complied with the request to move the match in the Chinese city of Hangzhou from Sept. 18 to Sept. 17, the world governing body said on its Web site. The original date marks the anniversary of the 1931 "Mukden Incident" that led to the Japanese occupation of China's northeast, regarded as the start of a campaign of aggression that led in 1937 to the occupation of much of China. "Given the historical background and taking into account the security considerations, FIFA and the (local organizing committee) deemed it appropriate to move these matches forward by one day," the FIFA statement said...more...

And what does it say about the Chinese that these are the same midgets that pretty much kicked their Chinese ass (or their parents' asses) back in the day, right? Not a very good choice in insults...
