Gov't supports 'Women's Only' carriages to curb perverts

This is surprising considering it`s the civil servants who have been getting busted for groping!

What percentage of train riders are female? Are they going to have to have a hell of a lot of these cars, or are not all the women going to be able to fit in them (causing all the pervs in whatever car they are in to converge on the remaining few)?

I really don't think that this is the right way to handle the groper issue. Anyway this seems to be a bit late as there is not the same problems there used to be. It is just "not cool" to be a groper anymore. Not that it ever was cool but people are talking about it more now which is helpful.

How about telling people if they see a groper or if they are a victim, then it is OK to bitch-slap the loser or otherwise humiliate or if not confident enough themselves to get assistance from someone else in the carriage to help drag them off to the nearest koban.

Just a bit of empowering education for all - not an option to run off and hide away in fear of a small minority of deviants. It is a big bad world out there but it is the wrong message to say that females need to be hidden away and to be protected from something which can easily be solved in other ways. It also perpetuates a deeper paternatistic problem that will not effect social change. This should be a peer support thing as well.. this is unaccecptable behaviour and if you see it then for goodness sake, step in and help your fellow human.

Yes I have had the "pleasure" of a chikan many years ago - but I just did what came naturally - turned around and called him a freak and abused him in Japanese - he was so embarressed that he ran off at the next station. Perhaps that he now thinks that all white chicks are bitches from hell, but at least he wil think twice about it if he ever gets the urge. Sure I have a bit more confidence than the average female citizen, but I will be the first one to stand up and offer to support to another person who looks distressed.

Yeah, but I don't know if they would be "in to" getting caught because a 12 year old started a ruckus with them for reasons that would become self-evident. I really think silence is the biggest obstacle to stopping it.

What do you suggest?

Why is it always unattracive women that shout the loudist over men groping women. You would think that they were happy they got any attention at all.
These women can also be quite forceful with men. The ammount of women that tried to force themselves on me is unreal. They have serious issues with their place in the food chain.

This is not an issue of perverted men so much as it is a HUGE failing of JR to accomodate the herds of people that get on the train every morning. Due to them, conditions in the train are so bad that it's downright terrible for men as much as it is for women. The fact that this situation precipitates a good situation for perverts is a nasty side-effect

- First, the trains just aren't big enough to hold everyone. They simply need to be double decker. They already come fast enough and often enough, and other than ripping up more land to make more tracks, they need to deck out rush hour trains with bigger, more roomy carriages.

- They need to FUCKING STOP idiots pushing onto trains at the last minute. The morning commuters are at fault because they actually don't mind having their personal space encroached on and don't complain. JR conductors are at fault because rather than pull people off trains trying to jam themselves in, they help push more people on.

The problem is, JR is virtually a monopoly come rush hour, and there is no real competition forcing JR to make any real changes. They're quite happy charging a shitload of money for you to ride their trains, and if you want comfort, you pay shitloads more for a green car.
The rest of the salaryman sheep have to take it up the anal cavity.

In the Americas, Mexico City's subway has Women-and-Young-Children cars to help pregant ladies and infants in arms. (Those charming Mexican ladies ALWAYS drag me into to Women-only car with gales giggling 'cause I'm on crutches.)

They should make Men Only Carriages.

It would be interesting to see who would ride them.

Yokohama rush hour doesn't have any guys in the women's cars ---unless you count the okama.

More Tokyo train companies have introduced women-only carriages. Tobu, Seibu, Keio Teito, Keisei, Keio, Odakyu, Keikyu, Sagami, Tokyo Metro and the Toei Subway will have such carriagess for the morning rush-hour. The Hanzomon line, for instance, will have them available from the first train through to 9:30am.

I think it may be a bit over the top. I can understand why chicks would want to use them though. I got a few to many unwanted touches in my time.
But hey you just have to know how to look after yourself and know what to do if it happens. A few choice japanese swear words are usely a good choice.

I agree with something said earlier(can remember who by) that the major problem is the number of people packed into those trains. By having slightly less people per carriage, you would greatly improve the problem

I don't go looking for perverts in order to feel victimised and neither should other girls. It was only ever a very very small number of losers that did this and to assume all men on a carriage are potential groper then this is grossly unfair to the other poor wage slaves sharing your carriage.

I think it sends the wrong message to both men and women. Women are poor pitiful creatures that can't take care of themselves in mixed company and men are cretinous gropers. Both wrong.

Hardly conducive to a happy, well-adjusted society.

But if I see one then I say something. It is not so much of a problem anymore anyway so you have to be very unlucky.

Instead of Women only trains, something that might work is female undercover officers riding the trains to catch the chikan in the act and arrest the bastards.

I'm also wondering if I see a chikan hassling a woman, and shout at the guy to leave her alone, do you think the little bastard would go crying to the J-Police that the big mean gaijin is threatening him, or would he just stop and look away embarassed because he'd got caught?
