TOKYO :Japan is widely seen as an advanced country, but when it comes to dealing with mental illness, even its own government admits the country is behind the times.
One man is however trying to change things.
Takeshi Oshikawa, ... CEO of Tokiwa Mental Health Office .... is not a qualified psychiatrist or counsellor, but he calls himself a "convincer".....
... He once tried to "convince" a 36-year-old who had not left his room for more than a decade.
And what did he find?
Bags of human waste, as the patient refused to use the toilet.
