Internet Detectives See Through Skirt Hoax
http://canada.com/national/story.asp?id=527076A9-5C4E-4C2D-A068-62BD48544B12
The Queensland Sunday Mail reported last week that men's heads were madly swivelling in Japan over teens sporting see-through skirts that reveal the buttock cheeks and thongs or underwear of the wearer. But, the report authoritatively explained, the naughty bits are actually cleverly painted onto the fabric.

Turns out the newspaper was duped by an Internet hoax that's been circulating as an e-mail reading: "What you see below are not see-thru skirts. They are actually prints on the skirts to make it look as if the panties are visible.

They thought this was real?

Maybe it is...

A friend of mine sent me an e-mail (with those photos) the other day. I laughed out loud when I saw them! Right! Like some clerk in a book store is going to wear a skirt like that! Some people

Some people are willing to believe any bullshit. I am surprised that our papers in Canada did not get duped. The papers here rank a notch above the Queensland Sunday Mail in quality.

I think you meant 'wanting to believe anything'.

Actually, I saw some MEGUMI bikini t-shirts that ARE real. I couldn't find the link, but they had MEGUMI's breasts printed on the front of the shirt.. I was impressed. 8O

I think it also has to do with the 'see-through' technology that was on the Net about a week ago:

As an Australian living in Far North Yocalland...Queensland, I can state that in my opinion the only reason that Murdoch newspapers Like the 'mail are daily is for the paper to be able to fit in all the retractions and apologies for incorrect or salicious(sp.) reporting 8O . Or so it seems 8)

A Mainichi connection?

Postby Marvin Feltcher » Thu Feb 27, 2003 8:52 pm

There may be a Mainichi connection to this original story. An ex-MDN worker left to work at the one and only Daily Mail. I saw the original story, but can't remember if it was by-lined. I have to admit, if it was the MDN guy, I probably would have remembered. I hope it wasn't him, though. Whoever wrote it would be deeply embedded in fecal matter at the moment, I guess. Perhaps we'd have to call a Hole boy to dig them out?

So this is what cheeky girls wear in Japan ... but will it ever ...

The latest Japanese style makes people look twice at young women daring enough to adopt it. But take another look at these pictures ...

Not Australian

Postby Marvin Feltcher » Sat Mar 01, 2003 8:08 am

This headline should have said "QUEENSLAND daily duped ..." There's a big difference between Queensland and Australia. Queensland just happens to be part of the Australian continent, but it's actually way out there in space.

Amazing discovery

Postby Marvin Feltcher » Tue Mar 04, 2003 12:15 pm

This week's Asahi Geino has got a picture of a woman wearing a titty T-shirt. It also shows where you can buy them. The site is at
http://www.famima.com
You have to click on the photo of the women in bikinis to call up the T-shirts. Incidently, the T-shirts are part of the Yellow Cab collection.
Actually, the shirts are a bit tame, but still better than nothing.

Marvin,

What's the poop on why a paper such as Mainichi is so interested in publishing puerile English language material. Is Wai Wai also in Japanese or is there just an English language version. I bet the Butcho who heads up Wai Wai has got to be one of the all time pervs of the century.

Anyhoo, keep a stiff upper lip and pound out the stuff for the masses.

Mainichi

Postby Marvin Feltcher » Tue Mar 04, 2003 1:15 pm

I've gotta be careful how I phrase this.
We want to report news about Japan that can't be found anywhere else (because nobody else has the guts to cover it). This policy has proved extremely successful in terms of increasing readers (the MDN is now read more than at any time in its 82-year history and is by far the number 1 site devoted exclusively to news about Japan). We've also got a tiny number of employees, so we're really limited to what we can cover.
WaiWai is just translations of the Japanese weekly magazines you can see advertised everywhere on the trains. There is no real Japanese WaiWai, but all the stories from WaiWai originally appeared in Japanese publications.
WaiWai has been a successful part of the MDN for about 14 years now. It used to be a lot more about weird stuff in Japan, but is now largely sex and violence because we know exactly how many people read us and the stories they like to read.
I choose nearly all of the stories, which I suppose makes me the perve of the century! That's pretty close, as perhaps Guy Jean or anybody else who's met me could tell you.
Our bosses don't particularly like WaiWai (some have even tried to get rid of it), but bear with it because it is by far the most popular section of our site (and the newspaper when it existed). But they never stop us from running any story and encourage us to promote WaiWai if need be.
Anyway, hope this explanation helps.

They way I understand it, the Butcho wants to be more respectable but the website log shows that:
The Mo' perv the stories, the mo' pumped the Hit count. Yeah, hit me baby!

BABY, this story got BACK!

Rendezvous
The Japan Times: April 26, 2003By JANE REES
As you like it. . . . Everything new is old again, or, if you will, spelled sort of backward. . . . Everything old is new again. Reflections of these astonishing times....
Now, according to my anonymous correspondence, the latest "in" (and out) new Tokyo look is the Roaring Twenties flirtatious flapper in a miniskirt. She turns around and behold! The naughty girl appears to have a bare behind showing through a sheer covering.
