Wani Books has just released a new book of Kegadol - idols sporting bandaged arms and eyes. This appears to be a cross between the meganekko (girls with glasses) and mask fetish shots that are already widely available. Last week I stumbled across many photos of Japanese “medical play” -- bondage involving wrap submissives plaster casting materials, duct tape, and quicksetting bandages. While these sort of things can have any number of sources/orgins and there is always the chicken or the egg question, I think some of it is a result the character Rei Ayanami in Neon Genesis Evangelion, who is injured several times during the series and she then appears with a bandaged eye, arm, and chest. More than a few action figures/toys of Rei have sported the injured look, so it must have its appeal to some audience.

Though I am sure she helped making it popular, I have to say that I first saw this fetish around 1993 in connection with the Japanese noise scene (artist such as Merzbow and the like) and it had probably been around for a while at that time.

Oh, and recently I discovered this movie: ギプス - IMDB link - which is supposed to be about this fetish. I have it somewhere but haven't seen it yet.
