Safety guideline for Japanese tourists

Japan fans warned not to fly naval flag
Fri Aug 8, 2008 / BEIJING (Reuters) - Japanese fans attending the Beijing Olympics have been advised not to display the country's "rising sun" naval flag for fear of provoking a backlash from Chinese hosts. The flag is seen by many in Asia as a symbol of Tokyo's wartime militarism. "We explain in a safety guideline for Japanese tourists coming to see the Olympics that the old military flag may cause trouble...more...

Just the right reply for a moron - congrats

As Black Cat and anybody with intelligence recognises, the Germans have educated their people thoroughly about WW2. German people (apart from isolated right wingers) never try to justify their country's Nazi nightmare.

It's a different case in Japan where the perpetrators of similar actions are excused with the whining 'Japan are victims' bullshit. Textbooks that would be seen as filled with fruitcake opinions and lies are not used in German schools unlike in Japan where WW2 atrocities become 'incidents', including the brave Japanese military's forcing Okinawa civilians to kill themselves, and the prolonged slaughter and rape of Nanjing's residents.

Yes, the Germans have been educated. The Japanese - no. That's why they are held in such contempt throughout Asia. Travel nearly everywhere and while the people don't blame today's Japanese for the War, they have contempt for the way in which their government and many citizens refuse
to grow up and acknowledge their role as the Asian Nazis of WW2.

I guess that's what Jack has in common with them.

Amen, couldn't have said it better myself.

You also have to realize, the Japanese hate to be criticized on any level, that is why relationships are on a shoestring, so very fragile. Once you do this and they come back at you and open up and have to fully explain themselves or show accountability for a mistake that THEY have made, then usually, the relationship is over. Always remember; "Japan is a land of contradictions." Japanese always want to be perfect, try to be perfect and can't accept anything less.
This is why the society has so much elevated levels of stress, the demand for perfection on ever level is crucial for the Japanese, anything else is unacceptable. I think you really hit the nail on the head. Usually for us, we are taught, you make a mistake, "Acknowledge it, take responsibility and move forward" is pretty much the norm for most Western societies, but not for the Japanese.
Saving face and upholding a positive image is the most important thing for the Japanese and to teach the people in the same manner the Germans taught their people would be a tremendous blow to the Japanese spirit and that image and pride is the embodiment of their character and who they are.

Well, I think its good advise. Last time I was in China during Soccer cup and the Chinese had started to throw down on the J-Embassy (bricks and stuff) , It was pretty clear that any Japanese hangin around would be fair game. It also wouldn't hurt if the J-tourists would learn a few words in the local lingo - talk about 'ugly American' complex -- my direct experience is that Japanese are the ugliest tourists on the planet. Outside their own Island envelope, pretty much everyone despises them.

That they even need to issue this warning is deplorable. I mean come on Japan, WAKE UP!

Why are you so uptight? Is it that possibly a nerve core was so gently struck. Is it plain bliss or utter ignorance that history for some crazy reason eluded you. Let me help you out; the original Axis of Evil was Germany and Japan, they had a pact, the Japanese adored and idolized and embraced the twisted ideas of the Nazi's and to this day, you can still see remnants of Nazi ideology incorporated into this society.

Example; What blood type are you? Why is this shit so important to the Japanese?

Why is it when Japanese are around Germans they always get excited and love to annoy them by constantly telling them, "We were unified and were allies at one point or our cultures are very similar." I had a number of German friends telling me this. Most of them get a little freaked out about it.

And knowing Japanese culture and growing up in Germany, I can say, unrquivacalble without a shadow of doubt, The Japanese and the Germans were connected, admired each other, learned from each other, so in other words...yes, they are the same and to some degree, WORSE!
