Spiderman Rents A Tokyo Apartment

A new promotional campaign for Bloom Tower in Shibaura, suggests that Spiderman has a pad in the new Tokyo apartment block. Monthly rent for a 1LDK starts at 191,000 yen but, if your spidey sense takes you more upmarket, you can have a 4LDK for 1.8 million yen a month. The Marvel character joins overseas stars like Richard Gere and Madonna in promoting residential developments in Tokyo. With few takers on the horizon these days, the owners need all the help they can get to find some tenants.

Tail end of the boom

So many of these top end condominiums have more than 20% vacancy and these guys are just launching their new building? Frankly, the docklands have never been a big attraction due to the lack of amenities and general unattractiveness of the surroundings.
Most oyasan would happily offer a nice discount, no key money or renewal fee for rental apartments around central Tokyo, the way things are headed. Any oyasan who think otherwise will be facing the prospect of no rental income for at least 6 months.
