Congrats on the MBA program!!!

Postby cstaylor » Tue Jul 27, 2004 3:23 pm

Wow, that's awesome! Any suggestions for fellow FG that want to apply for American MBA programs?

Before I moved here, a guy I knew who had a Harvard business school MBA said that a foreign assignment, especially one where you're working with natives, is a huge gold star on the application.

Will you be updating your LiveJournal from Texas? :?:

Thanks! The main thing I would say is to apply early! most applications take months to get worked out.... it was hell getting it all done in 2 weeks.

One thing that I think they usually like is for an MBA candidate to have a very clear set of well defined plans for what they want to do after they get their MBA. The people doing admissions seemed to respond well to the fact that my goals were very clear and very specific.

and yeah... ill keep the journal up to date :)

My friend with a loisy 2.9 grade average from bonehead Bowdoin College got in top-20-ranked Tuck's MBA program in Dartmouth on just the strength a great smile, firm handshake and only TWO years of running a sucessfully sales dept. in Egis Japan...a job he got out of Monday Japan Times (on a tourist visa).

But if the lucky buyer wants to paint it purple, your new bike could look like this:

SMU in Dallas, Texas. I wanted to go to school in Texas to be near my family so that meant either UT or SMU, since once you're not talking about ivy league, anywhere in the top 40 is really about the same level of prestige. SMU has a better developed international program so thats where I targeted. Besides, my younger brother is starting the PHD program at UT this fall and I didnt think Austin could handle 2 of us in the same city :)

dunno abuot the JETRO yet. I still havent seen any scores

Oh wow! That’s awesome. Just a piece of advice: Do your MBA from a good MBA school else it is not much of use. Corporate honchos these days look for top brass and don’t settle for anything else. So choosing a good MBA school is very important.

Seems a harmless-enough link to a quality site, from which we learn that the Thunderbird management should maybe attend their own classes from time to time:

Bloomberg wrote:The deal provides a much-needed fiscal lifeline for Thunderbird, a 67-year-old Glendale (Ariz.) business school. With falling demand for the school’s flagship two-year MBA, a dwindling endowment that is dwarfed by rivals, and debts of $24.5 million, the school said it needed to take drastic steps to stay afloat.

The poster does however appear to be posting from a data center known for their spammer-friendliness.

Tentacled.
