Just got word of some disturbing news about Roppongi Hills:

Because this is Japan and 'cool' takes precedents over safety or practicality, Mori built thes huge revolving doors at the entrance of Mori Tower in Roppongi Hills.

Now these are no ordinary revolving doors; ones of a normal size that you push yourself. These are huge, heavy swinging doors that fit up to seven people in the walking compartments, and turned by a motor; if you touch the doors, they stop. Which can be fun in it's own devious way - get out, turn around, touch the door, trap everyone left behind.

Well these doors look cool, but they're slow and a pain in the ass. They supposedly 'detect' when someone's in the door, and move faster.. Theoretically... At times, they don't work and I'm left in within the door, waving frantically at the IR receiver... that still doesn't detect me; It's cool. It doesn't work. It's Japan.

Well these totally cool, inefficient, and yes, dangerously heavy swinging doors have one safety measure, as I said; they stop when touched..

But the safety measure has a terrible flaw; The revolving action stops, but the doors are locked in that position, waiting to continue in the same direction after a 4-second pause - Great when you're in a rush. Not so great when... your 5-year old son GETS HIS HEAD STUCK IN THE DOOR!

Child gashes head, security gaurds attend to door, ambulance takes 30 minutes, no one thinks of contacting Clinic on 6th floor, boy dies a slow, cold blood-letting death, no one's accountable.. Shouganai.

Interestingly enough, I commented to my friend about 5 months ago how dangerous/inefficient/impractical these swinging doors of death appeared.

Another strange fact; they're made to slide open as well.. like any other train doorway.. I bet on Monday, they all slide..

GJ's Roppongi Hills DEATH Predictions:

-- Outside walkway covered with slats of glass (could be plexiglass) 1.5 meters long, 25cm wide, fastened to the walk at two small points.
DEATH PREDICTION: Typhoon rips glass weapon from walkway, decapitates would-be shopper.

-- Badly lit steps 80 cm wide, 5 cm high.
DEATH PREDICTION: Obaachan accustomed to 'normal' steps doesn't see mini-steps, falls, breaks hip, dies.

-- Door to stairway, within the business section of tower, open directly over the top of the steps.
DEATH PREDICTION: Worker opens door to stairs while talking to colleague behind him, falls down steps, dies.

There's more, but this is getting too long..

Poor mother.. Goes to Roppongi Hills with her son for a worthless day of window shopping.. Ends up experiencing the Roppongi Hills PLAYPEN OF DEATH!

Totally the mother's fault. A five year old needs constant supervision. Take it from me I teach the little maniacs. In Japan, children run all over the place, in traffic and so on, riding around with no car seats no seatbelts, on the back of mom's bike with no helmet and so on and so on and so on. If you let a little kid like that run around by himself in a big city don't be surprised when he gets killed. The way these mothers neglect their kid's safety I think they want their kids to die. If you're not prepared to do the work, be like AssKissinger and don't breed!


Update:Just saw it on the news. The kid was six. It turns out children have been caught up in the doors before but the store failed to report it. BTW, Japanese news sucks, not a single picture, no crying mother, no blood stains, not even a shot of the scene of the accident. Might as well be radio. That shit wouldn't fly in America. What a bunch of lazy fucking reporters.

My friend said the pool of blood was huge; she was pretty shaken up. I wonder if the information desk, located right in front of the scene, thought to call the Roppongi Hills Clinic on the 6th floor.. Nah.. What am I thinking?! It's much better to wait 30 minutes for an ambulance that can do nothing until they get the corpse to the hospital..

I'd sue every fucking entity responsible, from the people that make the door, the building, the city, the door cleaners, the people who test those revolving doors, the people who make the class, who make the motor, who make the sensor.. i'd sue koizumi, mori, I'd sue the bums that sleep in the door at night... you name it.. until the door is removed, an apology is issued publicly, and a ban placed on those type doors... there is absolutely no use for those doors.. period.. regardless. A kid, a baby, an adult all can be injured more so than a start swing/sliding door system.

Why don't people sue these companies and organizations? Not for the money but just to get a change going???

I can just see this mother walking along real fast doing her Japanese I'm in a hurry, I'm important rountine look at me so busy barely time to spend money in this over priced K-Mart. He can run along after me, chasing me, behind me, where I can't even see him because I am the important one and he should be running to keep up with me the very important and busy in a hurry mother.

Saw on the late news last night that this was incident number 5 with the "Death Door" - and not all of the door's victims were kids.

Although for seem reason another factor pops into my head - how people seem so unaware of their environment here sometimes. I'm not sure whether this is a result of living in a place with so many people - but I don't see many people actually looking where they move - sometimes it's almost as if they are in their own private nobody exists world.

I think you're jaded from teaching the most spoiled generation on earth.. And I truly understand your frustration; I've taught children for years. Discipline, generally, doesn't exist here.. They depend on society to be the parents. A child is, basically, like a large chihuahua; something cute to dress up and show off to the neighbor mothers.

But I also understand that parents cannot watch their children every second of every day, as you suggested. It's obvious you don't have kids, so it's easy to be callous.

So I totally 100% have the right to pass judgement on these selfish cunts who want a baby but don't want to do the work. The only time you take your eyes off a child that young is in a totally child safe environment and that is not in downtown Tokyo. Sorry that having a kid makes wasting your money at that bullshit department store or whatever the fuck it is hard work but that's the price you pay for replicating your DNA.

Well put it this way. I'm married and we use contraceptives. The reason I don't want a kid is because I'm fully aware of how much work they are. So I guess I understand what it takes a lot better than some lady who forces her kid to tag behind in Roppongi of all places. Although I guess she understands now. Too bad she was too much of an idiot to realize the most obvious thing in the world before it took a tragedy.

Those doors were an accident waiting to happen; I saw it, experienced it, and predicted it. Why couldn't Mori?

Trust me, as an impending and now actual parent of an almost 10 month old, I've read and heard so many different and freaky stories in the last 19 months of how people have lost their children that I'm convinced the wife & I need internal drug pumps full of speed to keep us super-alert 24 hours a day to give our little one any chance of survival.

I, myself, mentioned to the security gaurds one early morning that the sensors didn't work properly; the sensors didn't detect me, so the door wouldn't revolve.. Bet no one looked into it.. Bet they do now.

I saw something in the news on NHK about the Roppongi Hills building having already "moved" more than 25 cm. They had a bunch of corrupt-looking officials saying "it's ok, the safety limit is 30 cm", t'was like "keep laughing while the whole thing comes crumbling on your head". Has anybody else heard about that?
