I'm a bit curious.
I totally forgot about it.
Did this ever go down?

Oh yes indeed it did.. there were two organised teams and a rebel rogue team that came just to disrupt any organised proceedings.

It was a heap of fun - we all got soaked and drank lots. The police were pretty cool about it all as we didn't have fireworks. They did stop by to check our gaijin cards, nationalities, job-titles, blood groups etc. But they left with the warning to watch our bags as there were lots of homeless in the park but to have fun.

Stopped for Gaijin Cards?

Postby dimwit » Wed Sep 14, 2005 6:11 pm

Lordy, Lordy, in my 11 years here, I have never been stopped and asked for a Gaijin Card by the police. It must be a Tokyo phenomenon.

Just about every Tokyo FG I've talked to has been stopped, except me because I'm invisible. :fresse: ("Invisiblity" is a common complaint of the handicapped in Japan.)

It was a first for me too.. I was thinking of doing a "Debito" and screaming "injustice for foreigners" but I complied mainly because I was

a) in Yoyogi park after midnight with a gang of suspicious looking characters (my brother in full camo gear with his face covered in mud)

b) I was holding a large machine gun style water soaker and looking suspicious myself

c) was quite silly drunk...

During the Great Houligan Wars of the Age of the World Cup, I got hit twice in 5 minutes walking from Roppongi station to Roppongi Hills. I was wearing a fairly reasonable suit, necktie, briefcase and should have at least, resembled a business man and two junsacho's in succession (I think they were waiting in line) gave me "the you got gaijin card you show me" song and dance. I was running a bit behind the power curve and got a little warm about the second stop and asked if there was a crime or some keiho requiring the check, to which he said "No,No,no crime Japan, just normal keimon".

WTF, 87% of the entire African continent is two steps away at Roppongi kosaten working as ponbikis and there aren't two visas between the whole crowd and this clown is in the middle of Roppongi Hills carding business men. When he assured me they always check all the gaijins in Roppongi as a matter of routine, with that, I could no longer stay mad. It was just too much.

Here we are mom in the exotic far east!

not been carded yet in almost 9 years - and I tend to stop policemen while I'm drunk to either ask for directions or complain about something.....

Nice account you mother f**king honkie, not only are you wrong on all accounts but you are living in your white dream land trying to play soul troll. I do by the way also have a big long one and can dance. I just came to J-land causing I got tire of f**king your mama and wanted something that didn't smell.

Have a nice day
