Zoom out to 20 miles or more and there are head-on collisions everywhere.

I've landed my own plane at Long Beach Airport and I got a giggle when the the flight controller noticed I was originating from Colorado and welcomed me to the "Bird Cage" -- the LA Basin. From my point of view from a light plane mixed in with heavy traffic, it really looked like flock of wannabe Norwegian Blues.
