Japanese-American accused of being Tokyo Rose dead at 90
Associated Press September 27, 2006, 12:10 AM CDT
CHICAGO --
Iva Toguri D'Aquino, who was once accused of being World War II broadcaster Tokyo Rose, died Tuesday in Chicago at age 90.....

As I mentioned the FG thread 'TOKYO ROSE' confesses all, "Several of us from the Northside (Chicago) have met her....she's an ok lady and till the late 1980s she often handled Japanese language questions and students at her shop at Clark and Belmont which only few steps away from my house. She got a bad rap since there were several Tokyo Roses (maybe as many as 20) and she didn't have much of a choice.

Man, that's a woman who'd been through a lot. Pretty much the poster girl for f*cked gaijins.

If all it took was Tokyo Rose's reports to destroy the morale of Allied GIs, then we should have packed up, gone home, and left a big sign saying "DOUZO!" planted on Diamond Head on Dec. 8, 1941.

Please. GIs were listening to them for comedy value. Anyone who'd be demoralized by that was going to crumple into a useless heap at the first sign of combat, anyway.

Seriously man, you really think "The Greatest Generation" was such a bunch of spineless pussies that "vindictive taunts" were enough to make them cry for mommy?

Iva Toguri AKA Tokyo Rose

Postby Jack » Thu Oct 12, 2006 9:58 pm

The Economist of October 7th-13th issue has a one page obituary of Iva Toguri. I'm not able to paste a link here but if a more resourcefull person can do it at http://www.economist.com please do so.

The gist of the story is that she was not Tokyo Rose and was unjustly punished. It's a sad story like for most 90 year olds who have gone through a war. Worthwhile reading if you can still find that issue on newstands.
