Mino Monta Is Officially Everywhere

Postby Mulboyne » Tue Nov 28, 2006 10:21 pm

[floatr]Image[/floatr]SeattlePI: Japan TV host certified world's busiest
There's no escaping Norio Minorikawa on Japanese TV. He hosts news shows, talk shows, wildlife shows - even his country's version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" On Tuesday he reaped the benefit of all that work: a Guinness World Record for most live hours on the tube by a TV host. The hyperactive TV personality, better known to Japanese TV fans as Monta Mino, spends a total of 21 hours and 42 minutes every week on live TV across 11 shows, according to the Guinness Web site. "I'm touched. I want to die talking," Minorikawa told London-based Guinness's Chief Operating Officer, Alistair Richards, at a presentation ceremony in Tokyo...more...

Not only is he super busy but he apparently had back surgery, too. He said he was in really bad pain from a pinched nerve or something.
His [Brendan Behan's] last words were to several nuns standing over his bed, "God bless you, may your sons all be bishops."

Do you think that explains the constant deep tan? From studio lights?

He had surgery to fix the back pain but what about an enema to fix that constipated expression?

He should, for what he's being paid. He should have lots of time to do it now that he dropped the SOYJOY energy bar endorsement.

Fox: Japanese TV Host Wins Guinness Record for Most Live Hours a Week
Flick through a few channels on Japanese TV and Monta Mino is most likely there. And the world's most prolific television presenter, who just broke his own record for the most hours of live television in one week, says he wants to work even more. Mino, whose real name is Norio Minorikawa, received a Guinness World Record certificate Thursday acknowledging his 22 hours and 15 seconds of live TV broadcasts in April. He broke the previous record — also set by Mino in November 2006 — of 21 hours and 42 minutes. In counting the hours for the record, Guinness included Mino's appearances on various live shows on several TV channels. The hyperactive 63-year-old, who claims he only needs four hours of sleep every night, hosts 11 TV programs, including news shows, talk shows, wildlife shows and quiz shows, and appears on television every day of the week except Sunday. But apparently that isn't enough. "How about a live show on Sunday?" Mino said at Thursday's award-giving ceremony at Nippon Television Network Corp., where he hosts an early morning news program.

He is still around making any number of shows, not that I could tell you the names of the programs, as I tend to change the channel anytime I see him on TV. I do not watch TV to make my skin crawl.

I like Dimmer on this. See him and usually change the channel. See him the most during the morning on some channel (bokke), but don't seem to run across him later in the day.

TV presenter Mino Monta's son arrested for attempted theft

TOKYO —
Police said Wednesday they have arrested the eldest son of record-breaking television presenter Mino Monta for attempted theft after he allegedly tried to use a stolen cash card.

According to police, 31-year-old Yuto Minorikawa, was arrested after he was filmed by a CCTV camera at a Minato Ward convenience store ATM at around 1 a.m. on Aug 13 trying to withdraw cash using a stolen bank card, NHK reported. Police say the card had been stolen from a drunken office worker in his 40s while he was asleep in the street.

Minorikawa works for the NTV network.

The fact that those grainy CCTV cams can identify anyone is the only thing worth noting here.

The Fall Of The Mino Monta Brand
The proximate cause for Monta's fall is the arrest of his second son on a charges of theft. In a truly bizarre incident early last month, the son, a soon-to-be former employee of Nippon Television, purported found a man passed out on the street, purloined the man's wallet and tried to withdraw cash from the man's bank account using the man's ATM card. Monta (real name: Minorikawa Norio), in an act of contrition for his failings as a father, immediately took voluntary leave of his news program hosting duties and appearances in commercial advertisements.

Under normal circumstances, such self-abnegation would go a long way toward tamping down the reactions of Mino's peers in the news and entertainment worlds. Mino's taking immediate responsibility for an act in which he is only tangentially involved might even earn him a bit of sympathy.

However, Mino's anti-establishment populism, as well as a purported history, ostensibly swept under the rug, of being a little too familiar and/or brutish with the many attractive young women he has hired for his programs, made him a huge, easy target for the screaming scandal press, which plays an unofficial role of enforcer for the country's elites. Mino has been a rare strong voice, if an extremely imperfect one, against the status quo. His son's transgression has initiated payback time...

Interesting. Thanks for posting that. I was wondering why the talking heads seemed to be giving him so much grief on the TV this morning. They were implying that his apology didn't go far enough and that they wanted a more detailed explanation from him.

Sure. Also, if you'll recall, his initial statement to the press when this first happened was to tell them that a parent's responsibility for their child's actions ends when the child turns 20. The j-version of "go fuck yourself". Didn't do himself any favors with that less-than-contrite response...
