I just noticed a profile of Kent Derricott which appears in the blurb for a convention. I assume he wrote it himself:
...Kent Derricott has been immersed in the entertainment business for most of his career... He is known as the "David Letterman" of Japan...

He was certainly very popular during the bubble but "the David Letterman of Japan"? My arse.

Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

Ughh, there is nothing worse than Sterilized & Domesticated Gaijin that dribble all kinds of love and appreciation for the Japanese from their udders.

As Zapper said, "Gag me with a spoon"!:)

One exception to these domesticated Gaijin is Peter Barakan.
That said NHK is now trying to domesticate him with their insipid program they have him on, in which he has to speak English to Japanese who in many cases can hardly speak it as they talk about the traditional arts & crafts they perform.
Last week I noticed that Barakan was suspiciously pissed off when they showed some idiot called KEN doing some kind of Samba crap in his golden kimono after which they turned the camera on Barakan who said nothing but just had this look on his face like, he had just been gagged with a large turd.

I didn't realize until now that Barakan's long-running Inter-FM show had been discontinued. Is this why he has to cover matsuken now?
