[floatr][/floatr]Hiroyasu Imura of Ise has built a 1/23 scale replica of Himeji Castle, rising to a height of 4 1/2 metres, in his garden. It took him eighteen years and around 18 million yen to finish it. His wife made the pottery samurai and horse figures which feature in the grounds. If you are in the area of Enzacho, you can drop by and see it for free. Now that this project is finished, Imura is thinking about building Shimane's Izumo Temple. Story here (Japanese).

Wow, that took some time. I'm always impressed by anyone who can stick with something like that long enough to complete it. I would probably build one wall and get bored.

Reminds me of the 50s and 60s in America when people would build grottos and things like this in their backyards so families out vacationing in the station wagon could pop in to see the road-side attractions.
