I can't figure out for the life of me what the purpose of the rally was. Are they pissed off because the raise in ward taxes has taken a chuck out of their comic book money? Is it like a Gay Pride parade?

There are some vague comments about protecting Akihabara from redevelopment, opposing regulation on anime and manga, defending otaku culture and seizing the day.

Along with the otaku and moe crowd, they invited "cosplayers, maids, NEETS, hikikomori, lolicon, shotakon, delinquents, gay and lesbian, sexual minorities, the poor, the working class, working students, drunks and any other kinds of idiots and minorities".

Japanese report here.

Ta for the Danny Choo video Mulboyne...that was pretty awesome

Fuck yeah, inviting the hikikomori...that's the way show the fill the streets with revolutionary shock troops! I would also expect impassioned speeches about 'nobody better come for my gashapons' and 'they'll have to pry my candy toys out of my cold dead hands".

On a similar somewhat discordant otaku note, I came across this the other day, MC Axis...a new magazine apparently featuring Moe and military centered toys....Apparently, the WWII Japanese Imperial army was alot sexier than most people go on about.

There's a fair number of pics on Akibablog

Akibablog on the pre rally reqruitment...Those are fairly man-ish arms/hands on that maid....

A fair number of pics of the event itself.

*le sigh*

I just.... don't get it. WHY were they doing this again? Or is it just one more excuse to get dressed up and cosplay in public.... like they need a reason.

Enjoying the photos though.

It sounds like the losers and social rejects (cosplayers, maids, NEETs, hikikomori, lolicon, delinquents) are trying to ally themselves with true minorities that have real issues (sexual minorities, the working class, etc.) to give themselves an aura of legitimacy.

Yup, but as Craxican inferred in another thread, the empire probably boogied home with some major tail!

Moe is Justice

Postby Kuang_Grade » Tue Jul 17, 2007 2:26 pm

Matt Alt did a stint on NHK's Tokyo Eye program covering Akihabara Idol singers and their fans. It' s not bad and fairly earnest although I still don't get what Moe has to do with justice.
