. . . A person who visited the men's room of city hall in Kawaguchi, north of Tokyo, last week found a white package containing nine 10,000-yen (82-dollar) bills, each individually wrapped.

"It was left in front of a washstand. It came with a letter, saying 'Please make use of this enclosed inheritance money of 10,000 yen to fund your self-enrichment'," city spokesman Yukio Kawahara said.

The letter, handwritten with a traditional brush and evoking the language of Buddhist monks, continues: "Please engage in every sort of good deed with a clear heart ... May you be happy."

In addition to the money in Kawaguchi, another 90,000 yen was found in each of two toilets in public buildings in Akita prefecture, some 400 kilometres (250 miles) to the north, along with identical letters.

"We are totally puzzled, just wondering why. We have no connection to Akita," said the Kawaguchi official.

All of the money, a total of 270,000 yen, has been sent to local police, who are waiting for someone to step forward to claim it . . . more

No shit.

I wonder if paying the girls on Dogenzaka for their services counts as a good deed. I promise to tip.
