Kikuya, a ramen joint in Kita Senju, Tokyo has begun selling ice cream ramen. They claim to have experimented with Haagen Dazs but decided that a cheap soft cream cone made for the best combination.

You know, I always thought the Japanese grasp on the proper way to make ice-cream was tenuous at best. This just clinches it.

After being accused of being an uncouth tasteless barbarian for daring to contaminate beautiful pure handcrafted Japanese food with *gasp* Tabasco sauce, I am wondering. And, wondering hard.


Actually, it'd be an interesting test. Show the photo of the ice cream in the ramen and tell one group of Japanese:

1) It's a new cuilinary invention by a SF or NYC eatery.

2) It was invented by a real-deal Japanese ramen shop owner.


No doubt that the reactions will be entirely different depending on whom they believe the inventor to be...

Perhaps, but that might not be true. I was convinced that I had missed the boat when Pepsi released their Cucumber Ice drink last summer, though a lot of the locals didn't seem to like it/were shocked by the very concept as well.
