Live Action "Akira" Update

Postby Mulboyne » Tue Oct 30, 2007 3:32 am

Bloody Disgusting.com: 'Akira' Live Action Remake Finds Director!!!
One of the greatest post-apocalyptic thrillers ever told was the animated manga Akira, which saw an announcement wayyyy back in July of 2003 that James Robinson would pen the adaptation with director Steven Norrington. I'm sure this has long passed, but we do have something official that just leaked to us through the grapevine, something that's going to blow your socks off. We've been informed that Warner Bros. Pictures is trying to get Akira off the ground pre-strike and have attached 29-year-old Oscar nominated Irish director Ruairi Robinson! No more details have been revealed other than he directed a mind blowing short film entitled "The Silent City" [below].

You should also check out 'Fifty Percent Grey'. I'm still not too sure about this re-make business, classics are easily messed up when studios are just out to make a quick buck on an established name. I've seen some good remakes like The Thing, Evil Dead, Cape Fear, Thomas Crown, American grudge, The Departed, The Fly, but I've also seen a few very bad ones.

The idea of a Hollywood produced live-action Akira movie is incredibly retarded.
How did they end up thinking this could be a good project ? There are so many SF books waiting to be raped by Hollywood at a much lower cost, why would they even consider Akira ?

My guess is, some guy saw the latest Kanye West video and took the opportunity to push an idea which some other guy signed a check for. A couple of month into development they're going to realize what a nightmare this project is and move the Akira project money to a new Batman movie.
Careful design helps exorcise noise demons

Bloody Disgusting: 'Akira' Project is Dead as a Doornail
It has been a year and a half since we broke the news exclusively here on B-D - and about a year since THR confirmed (without credit of course) - that Ruairi Robinson would be making his directorial debut on the live-action adaptation of Akira, a massive two-part apocalypse story that was being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way and Warner Bros. Pictures. Sad news comes in this weekend as we have learned that not only has Robinson left the project, but Tetsuo and Kaneda's adventure is "dead as a doornail," a report we've confirmed with two separate sources. I can only hope it gets revived in the near future as this could have been one of the coolest effin' movies ever...more...

I wonder what ever happened DiCaprio's live-action AKIRA?
Is it the curse of Japan-themed movies?

The last we heard about Akira was that in 2009 it was as, "dead as a doornail."

However, DiCaprio's Akira is still listed as "In Development" at IMDB.com --- Akira (2013), but details are only available on IMDbPro behind the paywall. Same curse of Japan-themed movie has been happening for the past three years with Tobey Maguire "In Development" film Tokyo Suckerpunch (2011) "more at IMDbPro."

]Casting Couch: Who's Testing for Directors Roland Emmerich, Akiva Goldsman and 'Die Hard 5'[/B] (Exclusive)
Nov/4/2011 --- The Hollywood Reporter
A particularly busy time in casting circles sees up-and-comers battling for a plum part..
...Tuesday will be Akira's turn at bat. Warners' adaptation of the Japanese classic is looking for the actor to play Tetsuo, a young man with telekinetic abilities who becomes a dangerous weapon. (Garrett Hedlund is in negotiations to play Kaneda, the teen's older brother and leader of a motorcycle gang.) Ezra Miller, the emerging star of indie thriller We Need To Talk About Kevin, and Alden Eherenreich (who starred in Francis Ford Coppola's Tetro) are the names surfacing most often with the reading.

Hollywood... so much money... so little ideas...

Side note... the reboot of "Howling" (Howling 8 reborn) was an immense surprise...

From the #1 to the #7 in 95 it has been a non stop serie Z turdfest. When a movie need to happen during the filming of another bad horror movie... even the Howling serie would have been too over the top bad to fit in... THe only way I managed to see one of these movies entirely was a day I was stuck in bed with the flue and a 41 fever... It was quite a painfull experience (physical as well as psychological)...

But the #8... beside its cutesy teen romance background is actually a good surprise... No tits and ass... bit of blood... really few scene were you see the actual werewolves certainly because the carpetting and make up budget was a bit tight... But a really nice "and you thought zombie apocalypse was bad" story..

As far as I can tell, that's not a "motorcycle", it appears to be a glorified "scooter" (as in automatic) with a custom fibreglass shell and a big GPS.
I can't see how the customization would have even cost 1/4 of that, unless he paid some custom shop to the work, and got severely price-raped.

Well, that's nice, but I want the real thing. I want to build an actual bike that transforms like the one in Akira and does about 350mph if I want it to.

Well, I liked the Cyclone motorcycles from Robotech's 3rd story arc (Genesis Climber Mospeida), but they went from cycles to mecha/body armor.

What this bike from Akira did was went from a chopper style of riding and shifted up and forward to a racing style.

I can't find any pictures of it though.

Speaking of, someone recreated it in Second Life.
