I am glad I am not the only one who has a problem with the weight lifting culture in Japan, or lack there of. Most of them have no form, and the gym I go to only has a bar on a track, and dumbbells that only go up 15kg. Not to mention the over and unnecessary use of lifting belts. Honestly, who needs a lifting belt when you are using a lat pull down machine or bench press, even when they do use it for squats, they are not using nearly enough weights to warrant the use of a belt.
The gym I attend would be an embarrassment as a hotel health club in America. The machines are easily 30 years old, the dumbbells and weights are rusted and even older. The only thing that the gym has invested in recently is a dozen of those electrical horse machines. Itfs a shame that I can't use the pool because of a tattoo.
The school I teach at does have a very nice new training room but they are all machines. They have an old set of barbells, but I feel like I need a tetanus shot to use it.

Even though they know I can speak Japanese, it was very cute to watch 3 Japanese girls try to explain the coffee bean point card system at Starbucks to me in English. God Bless Japanese Starbucks Girls.
