canman wrote:I went to last year's health check I was still metabo, according to the waistline measurement. Now that is a crock of sh#t. I am now 162lbs, and I'm 5'4, but according to their measurements I'm overweight.

Samurai_Jerk wrote:And why the fuck are women allowed to have bigger waists? That's absolutely ridiculous.
FG Lurker wrote:They should really look at body fat percentages more than waist size or body weight.
Women are supposed to have higher body fat percentages and bigger hips than men.
Samurai_Jerk wrote:Anyway, this idea of using waist size and only waist size is stupid. Is a healthy waist size the same for canman, me, and AO (6'10"?)? A friend of mine gets shit-faced drunk almost every night, smokes like a chimney, and usually eats a bowl of tonkotsu ramen around midnight on the way home. However, he's very skinny (my height and about 125 lbs or 173 cm and 57 kg). Should he be considered healthier than someone who's a few cm over the waist-size limit, doesn't smoke and drinks moderately?
FG Lurker wrote:Which is pretty funny cause I had a friend who got berated for just that. They should really look at body fat percentages more than waist size or body weight..

BigInJapan wrote:Hmm, this reminds me of a physical checkup I had a few years ago when working at a large Japanese corporation.
The company doctor reviewed the results of my physical and said, "Oh, what's this, you got a B for your BMI". But then he took a look at me and said, "Ah, but you work out at the gym so I'll bump you up to an A so you've got straight A's now, ho ho".
When is the J govt going to realize that waist size and BMI mean nothing?
And the concept of fining or berating people for being over an arbitrary limit just boggles the mind.
MrUltimateGaijin wrote:BMI does mean something for the majority of people who are fairly sedentary, it just has to be applied by an intelligent doctor.
