You could write an attorney and get an initial consultation/price quote from them. You'll want an attorney to protect your rights as a parent I should think.

Well, I'm not too surprised myself. I told my oldest son some final words before I left in case I never got a chance to see him again.

However, I AM surprised how this came about. Basically she has been getting her freak on since I left. I came here to build a life so they could come, and then when I was ready, she said no. But she still had the nerve to ask me to keep sending money.

Anyway, she fell in love with somebody (like she knows what love is), and the guy split when his tour was up. Now she is feelin used and she wants to come crawling back after I've busted her out. (I have friends in Japan. Also her own sister and best friend busted her out) So I'll see what happens.

Getting a divorce in Japan is considerable easier than most other countries. You *can* do it in one day if you both agree and sign the paperwork in advance.

The Kyogi Rikon (ward office procedure) asks nothing of you except that your Japanese spouse files in person to have you taken off their family register. That takes about 15 minutes. You don't even need to be there.

If *you* are determined to divorce then the best and cheapest way is to agree everything with your spouse first and then go the Kyogi Rikon route. Don't go near a lawyer unless you absolutely have to.

I can give you better advice when you have a better idea of the circumstances.

Note if you try to turn this into an 'ugly' divorce in Japan from a Japanese national you *will* be the complete loser. Go softly softly.

Sorry to hear about that. Are you sure there is no chance of getting back together? I'm sure your pride is hurt that she was with someone else when you were gone. But maybe you can get past that and uphold the committment you made to her and your children. You may never have a perfect relationship again but certainly you could find a way to be happy and be giving your children a better chance than if you were apart. At the very least, please consider living nearby so that your children can see you often.

I'd end it. Infidelity is unforgivable. You can never trust someone again after they have broken the committment. I would maintain relations with your children, they are you blood, your life. Without you they will feel incomplete. You sound determined to end it and Steve has give you some great info on this topic.

I just don't agree with slim about getting back together.. I couldn't do it.. never. The whole time I would be cross and suspecting that she'd cheat again.. it would drive me to insanity. Trust is something that can really only be given once.. after that, you're just setting yourself up for a fall again and again.

It would be an agreeable divorce.
