I can't find the source now, but I swear I read something about this kid that he has some kind of patented digestive technology, whereby he's able to magick the 'dogs out of his system.

He downs the 'dogs by biting them in half and swallowing the halves in one gulp.

Apparently, when he subsequently defecates - and this is where it gets interesting - he's able to push out the halves intact and undigested.

It's nice to see him adapting so well to a new culture.. ;)

...53 3/4 frankfurters in 12 minutes...

Gee, I dunno about this 3/4 frankfurter bit. Seems to me, they should only count fully consumed frankfurters. But he'd still win, and still hold the record even if it was only an official 53 dogs.

Who needs that when you can tour the world feeding off eating competitions . . .

Japanese man eats record 58 snags

ImageImage

AP - Takeru Kobayashi chomped through a record 58 brats at the Johnsonville World Bratwurst Eating Championship on Saturday, easily winning another tasty title and slicing through the record of 35 set last year by Sonya Thomas.

"They're good," Kobayashi said through a translator. "I want to take some home."

The 72kg Kobayashi, of Nagano, Japan, earned $US8,000 ($A10,536) for his effort.

There was no extra charge for the 16,820 calories, 1,450 grams of fat and 19 days worth of the recommended amount of sodium he consumed in besting Joey Chestnut and Thomas in front of a crowd of about 3,500 people attending Sheboygan Jaycees Brat Days.

Kobayashi is a seasoned veteran at 27 and by far the world's best competitive eater.

But he narrowly beat 22-year-old Joey Chestnut of San Jose, California, in this year's Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest on the Fourth of July in New York.

At Saturday's showdown in Sheboygan, competitors had 10 minutes to eat as many brats as possible with no buns.

The Fourth of July contest is 12 minutes and competitors must eat the buns.

. . . He said he was going for 50, and plans to come back next year to break another barrier.

"I want to do 60," he said . . . more

Contra Costa Times
LOS ANGELES - As the crowd counted down -- "four, three, two, one!" -- Joey Chestnut hovered over a plate of Japanese gyoza dumplings. Flanked by a dozen other "gurgitators" in Little Tokyo, he gritted his teeth and readied himself.

Months of voracious training -- gorging on food and guzzling gallons of water to keep his innards stretched -- have turned the stocky 22-year-old San Jose State engineering student into a red-hot newcomer on the competitive-eating circuit. It's a regular feeding frenzy that's circus sideshow, World Wrestling Entertainment farce and novelty endurance sport.

Proponents, with the fervor of carnival barkers, say eating events are as American as the hot dog, which, not coincidentally, is consumed at the tour's premier event on Coney Island each July 4.

Critics say the eat-offs are crass and risky spectacles that mock nutritional habits by promoting gluttony and bulimia.

"Signs of a societal decline," Ralph Nader once called such competitions....more...

It's funny how the tiny ones are usually the better eaters. They had an eating tournament on TV a while back with a mix of skinnies and fatties, and the big ones were all eliminated by the second round. This one huge American guy went up against a tiny J-girl in a gyoza-eating contest and was getting his butt unmercifully whipped. The only reason he wasn't eliminated is because she choked (literally) with only a few dishes left to go.

The only good thing I can say about these eating contests is that they're great for my diet. After watching just one competition, I lose my appetite.
I have a blog. Last update: August 18, 2013.
