Fiber Internet Help

Postby Big Booger » Mon Jul 26, 2004 5:21 pm

I am soon to be moving as in 3 days. I have to shut off NTT Bflets 100mbit. They are not going to treat it as a moving deal because it will take 2 months before they can install the fiber optic cable in my new place. They are trying to charge me another 30,000 yen for installation... I don't want to do that, plus I have to wait 2 months for them to install it.

Any alternatives to NTT for fiber optic? I may have to go the YahooBB 45Mbit plan, but it only gives 1mbit upload.. I do a lot of FTPing with friends and family. I need the spend to send the files.

Any alternative 100mbit services out there? I'd like to keep the price below 10,000 yen per month if possible.

You live in Big-Boogerville. There ain't private company fiber out there. If NTT won't give ya fiber, nobody will.

Private fiber and cable only covers VERY urban places or places next to private train lines. Private company fiber doesn't even cover me and I live only 27 minutes from Shibuya and 20 minutes Yokohama.

At my office in downtown Yokohama, Kannai we use private company fiber by IIJ (grrrreat service from 8000yen/m and they're put us on a pilot project for 1Gigabit service soon). Tokyo Electric, Tokyu Rail and Odakyu Rail offer fiber in VERY limited areas near their existing fiber trunklines. But in Big-Boogerville well... nothing, nada, zip.

Well I think I want fiber from NTT, but I don't want to wait 2 months without an internet service. I might sign up for NTT ADSL, and then once the fiber is installed, I could go with BFLETS.

Oh, I feel your pain. All next week I'll be out on my rice ranch in Shikoku---I've had to install and pay for two seperate phone landlines to get "bonded pair" ISDN at 256k, w00t!
