Hello Kitty purring pretty as the cash rolls in - literally

OSAKA -- The Japan Mint will release commemorative coins marking November's 30th anniversary of the creation of Hello Kitty, the mouth-less cartoon character that had captured hearts of mostly women and children across the globe, mint officials said.
Applications to buy the sets expected to sell out rapidly will be accepted by the mint from Jan. 5 to Jan. 28, 2005.

AP.... A total of 200,000 sets of six coins valued between 1 yen (0.9 cents) and 500 yen (US$4.6) with a copper medal featuring the kitten's face packed in the Hello Kitty-shaped plastic case will be sold at 2,300 yen (US$21) from Wednesday, Sept. 15 by mail order.
