The LDP had been in talks with Fujikawa to get her to run for an Upper House seat. It seems this plan has come to nothing. On the one hand, it says something about the weakness of the LDP at this stage since candidates are wary about tying themselves to a party which may be in decline. On the other hand, there were some concerns about Fujikawa herself given that she is still in a legal battle with her former campaign manager and the weeklies reported rumours of her having a relationship with a married man. Some of her supporters also felt she should concentrate on her local role and it was unclear who was supposed to provide the funds for an Upper House campaign.
