Not the brightest but they sure are dedicated. Every morning around seven they have a meeting at the front gate (Ironically in a small area named friendship park) The pictures I snapped off are at the back gate. Yeah, the guv never actually came out and said he was anti-base and only hinted that privately he preferred the base be moved out of the prefecture. He was much more nuanced and agile than his predecessor, who had no plan other than get rid of the base(s). Economically there is just nothing other than gomen money and whatever construction comes from it. The prefectural gov actually published somewhere a pie-in-the-sky plan to redevelop Futenma, but other than some nice pictures and labels there was no actual way to do it other than to beg more gomen yen.
