Osaka stereotype?

I've heard from a few japanese that people from Osaka are "loud and obnoxious" Any comments on this? Is it a common stereotype?
The only osaka stereotype i know is that they eat alot of Tako.

I've heard of this East Japanese/West Japanese thing. Only that there's a difference, not anything derogatroy. The only specifics I got was that "East Japanese stand on the left side on an escalator, West Japanese on the right".

In a lab of about 13 people, there's only one hailing from West Japan. I'm astounded at the language ability of many of those I share an office with. They can read through an English text book and translate rapidly into Japanese as they go along. Try speaking to them in English though and they go all nervous and seek someone to help translate. The only exception is the West Japanese who has a carefree and humourous attitude and is very confident at speaking, with no worries about making mistakes.

Loud, yes. Obnoxious, maybe by East Japanese standards but not from a Western perspective.

I've also heard that Osakans jaywalk like crazy, and don't stop at red lights.

I worked with a guy from the Kansai area and he said guys from Kanto talk like they are really weak. The first time he heard Tokyo types talking was on a Kansai train and he thought they were gay.

I've heard of this East Japanese/West Japanese thing.

Nagoya-ben dialect seems to be more nasal which really helps when speaking American "standard" English.

As far as the "East Japanese/West Japanese thing", it's a rivalry much like the East Coast / West coast thing in the States. Personally, I always tell folks that my birthplace Chicagoland is to Osaka as New York is to Tokyo. That is Chicago and Osaka are known for their gangsters, comedy, food and 'living large' joie de vie.
