I went to see "7 Psychopaths" today and noticed that in a scene where the word AIDS was used the Japanese subtitles said エイ○. The only reason I could think they might do this was it was used in an irreverent way but I thought it was strange. They had no problem writing chlamydia (クラミジア) by the way so it wasn't a problem with the topic of STDs in general.

Point, such that it was, as it was expressly an irony piled upon ironic comment, was that it was interesting that wuchan referred to the sexless-Japan-full-of-virgins meme du jour, whereas AIDS witchdoctoring in Africa leads to a decrease in virgins.

These days everyone forgets the third entry on the list of AIDS patients from the glory days of 1982: gays, intravenous drug users, and cougars (not that we called them that then) travelling to Haiti for more of that black that they have to go back for once they have gone.
