If they are similar to the ones in Holland, they are harmless, though a little scary.

Now, speaking of spiders, I am looking for some of these.

They are called アシダカグモ in Japanese.

Anyone know where I can get those?

I need them to keep the roaches out of my compost heap...

There should be plenty in the Kinki region, although I doubt you can pick 'em up in the pet shop. We used to have those things living in the house in Yokohama (and never saw a roach the whole time we were there). They get freakin' huge and are scary fast, but are nice to have around in areas where roaches are prevalent. We haven't seen any up here though, because they seem to prefer warmer climes and their distribution stops just below Fukushima, if I remember correctly.

Do you already have a roaches in your compost? If so, I'm guessing it's only a matter of time before the spiders find 'em.

I just bought two Guinea Pigs yesterday.

But since they are still small, they may become prey to them spideros.

I have never seen those spiders around my house, but maybe they just converge on roach nests.

I counted four big roaches in my compost when I turned it over. They may be specialized in compost, but I am a bit worried they will find my home when it gets colder. I already found one inside a couple of weeks ago. It may also be that they came from my ケチ neighbor. The Missus heard from their daughter-in-law that they are basically infested...

You know... Having garden-compost-roach is not that horrifying... There's stuff that just exist together...
Try cats in the house... Even just one... Bugs hunting is their #1 hobby... At least you don't have to by hexbug to distract them like i do...

I have been considering a cat, but decided against it.

First, the combination with a grand piano is not very desirable. I don't even want to think what it looks like when it sharpens its nails against the piano's legs.

Second, I am kind of worried about all those parasites carried by cats. Cat litter is basically chemical waste.

So, it is spiders.

Cats are vermin. Spiders eat bugs.
Spiders win.
