They are worried about using the Cisco routers i recommended because Cisco is "not popular" in Japan. They want to use Yamaha because they spoke to their competitors, and none of them use Cisco. They seem like they don't wanna stand out from the crowd. (Even tho nobody will ever know what routers they are using)

Is it normal for competitors to share such info? Do Hitachi, Panasonic and Sony et al, all sit around a table and make collective decisions on how they will run their businesses?

The overall impression i get is that a great many people in Japan spend a great deal of time and effort, cooperating in order not to have to actually do anything. No wonder they are all in the office till 8pm, It takes a hell of a lot of work to make sure nothing ever gets done.
