I'm thinking about it, I'll ask the ball and chain tonight, maybe I'll do it anonymously. Making a written document now, I was extremely pissed off when it happened to my car.

That appears to invite the next driver to park in the lane directly right of that car and one more parked snugly to the left.

I think Russell was suggesting that the driver was leaving themselves open to being boxed in and unable to leave.

It sounds like it is time for a nice pot of tea, some deep breaths and some all round lightening up. I think you are on the way to that already.

That little bit of exertion just might make someone's day ... or year.
Of course it'll probably royally screw up the perp's day, but that's the point.

Most senior citizens do not want to use ‘silver seats’

Most people 70 or older do not use “priority seats” on public transportation, suggesting they do not consider themselves to be elderly, according to a survey by a company operating a travel guide and accommodation reservation services website.

The Tokyo-based company, Yuko Yuko Corp., recently conducted the survey on people 50 or older. The survey was conducted in July, and 1,695 subscribers of the website’s e-mail magazine service 50 or older responded.

To a question asking from what age people can be considered as elderly, more than 60 percent of respondents in their 50s and 60s replied “70 years old.” However, nearly 40 percent of respondents 70 or older replied: “80 years old.”

Asked whether they use priority seats — dubbed silver seats in Japan and reserved for the elderly, disabled, expecting mothers and people with small children — on public transportation, 74.7 percent of respondents in their 60s, and 55.4 percent of those 70 or older, replied they do not use the seats.

The highest percentage of respondents, at 32.4 percent, said their reason was “I’m in fine health.” It was followed by 26.3 percent who said, “I don’t think I’m a ‘silver-age citizen.’”

In Japan, the third Monday in September is a holiday called Respect for the Aged Day, and this year’s fell on Sept. 15.

However, 27 percent of respondents replied they have mixed feelings about having a day celebrating them, accounting for the largest percentage. Fewer than 10 percent of respondents said they were happy or blessed to have a day celebrating them.

I'll take an extra day off from work whatever the reason: rhythm of the earth in orbit around the sun, Imperial birth, commemoration of 1964 Olympics, or respect for elderly. Just don't expect me to remember which reason was for which day, I'm having a day off from that kind of effort.

Take away their drivers license when the fuckers turn 70

Police, shops reward elderly who quit driving

A shopping street in Osaka has begun providing discounts to elderly drivers who voluntarily turn in their driver’s licenses, while a local police station last month held a “graduation ceremony” for seniors who have given up driving.

These moves were aimed at stemming the increasing number of traffic accidents involving elderly people, particularly accidents associated with their declining attentiveness and reflexes.

About 40 stores of the Senbayashi shopping street and other places in Asahi Ward began providing discounts this summer to people aged 65 and older who turned in their driver’s licenses. At barber shops and restaurants, people can get discounts of 3 percent to 10 percent off goods or services when they present a certificate of their driving history, which is given to them when they return their driver’s licenses.

The program was launched by the association of shopping streets in the ward at the Asahi Police Station’s suggestion. The association asked its member stores to join the program.

“I hope the program will help ensure the safety of elderly people who shop at shopping streets,” said Keizo Yasuda, 70, the association’s chairman.

Meanwhile, at a ceremony on Sept. 5, the police station presented a “certificate of graduation from driving” to 10 people aged 67-83 who returned their driver’s licenses.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Takehiro Komaki, head of the police station, told the participants, “I thank you for your cooperation to improving traffic safety.”

Makeup routine keeps elderly women healthy

Making a routine of applying makeup can help elderly women improve their muscle strength and prevent dementia, according to research findings.

Senior citizens tend to have few opportunities to go out and get physical exercise. Thus the findings, which show it is possible to maintain health with the aid of cosmetics, have attracted attention.

The researchers also said women’s desire for eternal beauty can provide a solution that allows them to spend their days enjoying a higher quality of life.

Jointly conducted by Shiseido Co. and Chiba University, the research found that more muscle loading is imposed on the shoulders and arms when elderly women apply skin care products and cosmetics.

When the women unscrewed caps to open and close cosmetic containers, and massage their faces, the muscle loading volumes were two to three times greater than those when they had meals. The researchers discovered this by measuring their muscle movements using sensors.

In another study conducted by Shiseido, researchers asked 19 elderly women whose average age was 90 to continue applying makeup every day. Three months later, their grip strength had risen by two kilograms on average.

Among the test subjects was a woman who regained the ability to feed herself with a spoon and other utensils. She had needed assistance with her meals before the experiment.

Similar research results by other universities and study groups have found that if elderly women apply makeup, it can lead to an improvement in dementia symptoms and reduce stress.

The purported synergy effects include putting elderly women in a brighter mood, resulting in a tendency to hold more conversations and improve the appetite.

Some hospitals and nursing care centers have introduced cosmetic therapy for patients and elderly people as a result.

If elderly women are reluctant to walk, stretch or do other physical exercise, they can experience a sense of joy even if all they do is put on makeup.

Care Town Narimasu, a special nursing home for the elderly in Itabashi Ward, Tokyo, recently held a seminar on cosmetic therapy for its residents.

Mieko Ichimaru, 79, who attended the event, actively moved her hands and said, “As I’ve been putting on makeup recently, I feel happy because I look more attractive.”

Shiseido launched a study in July to seek evidence of a link between putting on makeup and such factors as muscle strength and cognitive ability. It involved 300 people aged 65 or older living in Tokyo.

The firm asked people in varying levels of physical health — from those who are healthy to those with dementia — to attend seminars twice a month and put on makeup every day. After three months, the company will measure how much the recipients’ grip strength and memory have improved.

Shiseido has fostered about 50 specialists for cosmetic therapy seminars. In 2013, the company held about 2,200 such seminars in hospitals and nursing care homes for the elderly across the nation.

By the end of this fiscal year, the company will tally the results and will make a recommendation to other entities on holding such seminars.

The government will also back Shiseido’s efforts. The Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry’s Healthcare Industries Division will provide subsidies for the firm’s research.

Well....... this lady only looked 65 ish, maybe the makeup was a good disguise?

Somewhere in Chiba last Saturday, she shunted the silver car off the road. Not sure exactly what happened, I was 2 cars behind at the time.

I soo wish the local chimps could stop dragging this concept of "character/behaviour" missmatch like if it was some kind of creative breakthrough/panacea.

Might have been just cheezy at the start of animated daguerreotype advertisement, but 60 years later it's murder inducing.
