It's been all over the local news. However, this isn't the first time Japan.inc. got caught cooking the books or changing data. What is important is this company is the cornerstone of Japan.inc. and represents everything Mr. Abe wants japan to be.
the battle begins....

Or is this a move to an endgame? In your HOMO is this bigger than the previous scandals you alluded to? In MYHOMO the airbag scandal is potentially the most damaging face-wise and even economically, if only because that shit can kill people. Olympus and whomever else was cooking books made them look bad and probably had serious financial world and stock exchange repercussions, but that does seem standard practice amongst the capitalist imperialist running dogs (Enron, Royal Bank of Scotland, etc.). Perhaps we can hope that this is the big stinky turd that will finally upset the broken down poop cart and motivate somebody to actually implement the Abe reforms he seems to be acknowledging were only ever lip service. And once he postpones the GST rise we'll know for sure (even though he should because they'll all turn turtle if he doesn't)
Horiemon for President?

outside japan you may be correct. People getting killed makes great headlines. However, Takada is a small obscure company that most Japanese people never herd of until they got into trouble. Literally, no one here cares. There has been no massive media effort to inform the public of the potential problem sitting in front of their face and there has been no huge public recall effort. "no one here (IN JAPAN) died so it's a foreign problem"
Olympus, well.... fucking gaijin. And that's all the Japanese public needs in order to blame the wrong party. When Olympus was given the largest fine in history for kickbacks a few months ago it was barely covered in Japanese media.

Aikawa was asked if the latest impropriety highlighted how the company had not fundamentally fixed itself after the recall scandal, although it had promised repeatedly to come clean.
"I realize that view exists," he said, his voice shaking slightly. "I see how difficult it can be to have compliance consciousness spread among all our employees."

Takata had (has?) a big plant in Mexico which apparently supplied the bags for US market cars. There was a strong suggestion that procedures and environmental controls, especially high humidity, were not good enough at that plant. However, it has since been argued convincingly that the cheap explosive used is not stable enough, even done properly. And Takata has tried to argue it wasn't the explosive at all but rather a fault in the design of the bat wings that open to allow inflation. In any case, a worldwide recall of all cars fitted with Takata airbags was and is being done by Honda. I think other manufacturers have done and are doing recalls more selectively according to where the bags were made and average local humidity and temperature.

Should I contact my dealer?

That's 2 antique platforms and a dead one BTW...
The sad part is their cars are full of smart and useful tricks and designs . Held together with bird shit...

Pajero and Delica are antiques... Only the outlander gets refreshed and maybe the l200 triton. Not officially available in japan but supported by the network dealerships...
