Surely not even government office working Japanese men can pretend to know how many illegal residents there are. It's a logical necessity: if they know they're illegal they're not resident for long, and if they don't know of them not even Donald Rumsfeld could help them. That means I've personally met at least 1% of the people who hold that visa.

Edit: I see that they are overwhelmingly Chinese, so that answers my question: probably most would find difficulty with other visas.
